Karen Bates has been making kids laugh in front of her camera for over a decade. Originally known for her stunning black and white film photography, Karen has welcomed the fun and vibrancy of digital color into her repertoire. She travels between New York City and Los Angeles to meet the needs of parents who seek her unique, one-of-a-kind portraits of their growing children. Nothing pleases Karen more than to snap a gummy grin, tickle a tummy, or just hang out with her tiny models.

Raised in Los Angeles, Karen lived in Paris, France for a good part of her twenties, where she worked for UNESCO and received a Magistère diploma from the Sorbonne. She also holds a Masters degree from Princeton University and has been working as a professional artist in New York City for the last ten years. Her photographs and artwork have been exhibited around the world.
